Sensing and Localization

Pioneering techniques to sense the world using radio signals from practical wireless networks of all kinds

PAWS' line of work in radio-based sensing and localization began with ArrayTrack, published at the 2013 USENIX NSDI Symposium, the first system to leverage wireless local area network MIMO, a communications technology, to sense the world at very fine granularity.

ArrayTrack was the first indoor location service in the world to achieve a median location accuracy of within 20 cm and sub-second responsiveness, without infrastructure beyond typical Wi-Fi access points, and inspired this line of work both at PAWS and beyond.
